    On April 14th,the Film Society of Lincoln Center honored the multiiple Oscar-winning actress Meryl Streep at their 35th annual gala held at Avery Fisher Hall, in New York City. 

meryl streep caroline digonis   Meryl Streep showed up in grand style, posing and hamming it up for the media that anticipated the star’s arrival.
   The event saluted Meryl Streep for “a remarkable career with selected film highlights, onstage salutes by friends and colleagues and personal remarks by Meryl Streep” according to the Film Society’s website. A pre-performance “Cocktail Buffet” and “Supper Dance”, followed the tribute. The annual event raises funds for the various programming and activities of the Film Society of Lincoln Center.

    The star-studded gala included Uma Thurman, Mike Nichols, Glenn Close, Robert Redford, Christopher Walken, Sylvia Miles, Stanley Tucci, and Amy Adams.
    The Film Society began in 1972 honoring major figures in the film industry including Charlie Chaplin, Bette Davis, Audrey Hepburn, Alfred Hitchcock, Fred Astaire, and Elizabeth Taylor.
    Meryl Streep won the Oscar twice, in 1979 for her performance in Kramer Vs. Kramer, and in 1982 for Sophie’s Choice. She was nominated a total of 14 times for the Academy Award. 
    Currently, Meryl Streep is filming Julie & Julia, which is based on Julia Child’s memoir, My Life In France. Stanley Tucci is cast as Julia Child’s husband Paul Child and Amy Adams is cast as Julie Powell, a cook who decides to learn her craft by trying all the recipes in Julia Child’s bestselling cookbook “Mastering the Art of French Cooking”. The film is scheduled for release in 2009.
