These eight opera greats are all part of the new Gallery Met exhibit, The Sopranos, where renowned artist Francesco Clemente has captured the eight opera divas each in a portrait.
Francesco Clemente is a contemporary artist who recently began his association with the Metropolitan Opera designing a front-of-house banner for the opera production Satyagraha which opened April of this year. His work has been exhibited in all the leading museums and is considered one of the celebrated artist of today.
The director of Gallery Met, Dodie Kazanjian, conceived the theme of the exhibit and invited Francesco Clemente to capture the sopranos, all who are scheduled to perform in the Metropolitan Opera’s 2008–2009 season.
The Sopranos exhibit is open thru July 14th, closes from July 15th to September 15th (due to Lincoln Center construction), then reopens September 16th until September 26, 2008. Admission to Gallery Met is free and open to the public at varied times seven days a week. Visit www.metopera.org for more information.
