June 24th – July 15th, 2008 New York Philharmonic Concerts In The Parks Series – With two performance dates on the Great Lawn at Central Park on June 24th and July 15th and Fireworks Finale.

   The great New York Philharmonic is about to start their 44th year of the very popular Concerts in The Parks series where people are invited to attend at no cost to hear the fantastic company serenade them. The New York Philharmonic is scheduled to perform in several parks including Central Park (Manhattan), Richmond County Bank Ballpark (Staten Island), PNC Bank Arts Center (New Jersey), Cunningham Park (Queens), Van Cortlandt Park (Bronx), Heckscher State Park (Long Island), and Prospect Park (Brooklyn).
   The New York Philharmonic, with conductor Bramwell Tovey, will be performing the following program for the June 24th Opening on the Great Lawn at Central Park: Festive Overture (Shostakovich), Symphony No. 4 (Mendelssohn), 1812 Overture (Tchaikovsky) and Selected Marches(Sousa). This concert date begins at 8:00 p.m.
   The other New York Philharmonic Concerts in the Parks dates will have a different program with conductor Xian Zhang and guests violinist Sheryl Staples and Michelle Kim. The program will include: Divertimento in D major, K.125a (Mozart), Concerto for Two Violins in D minor (Bach), and Enigma Variations (Elgar). The Propect Park date will have a different program as well.    The grand finale of the series brings us back to the Great Lawn at Central Park on July 15th, at 8:00 p.m. with conductor Alan Gilbert along with guest pianist Lang Lang. The program will include: Piano Concerto No. 1 (Tchaikovsky), Symphony No. 4 (Beethoven), and Finlandia (Sibelius). The 
audience will have the opportunity to vote for the encores at the June 24th performance in Central Park by sending text messages when prompted. The Concert in the Parks series will also have a photo contest where you can enter your best images from the concert series to win a pair of tickets to a New York Philharmonic concert.
