The Metropolitan Opera house presents a free summer concert with the great opera couple Angela Gheorghiu and Roberto Alagna in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park on June 20th, 2008, at 8:00 p.m. Selections of Verdi, Puccini, Donizetti and Massenet, are scheduled to be performed with the Metropolitan Opera’s orchestra and chorus. Under the baton of Ion Marin, the event is scheduled to break attendance records for the Metropolitan Opera.
According to the Met Opera General Manager, Peter Gelb, “We are trying something new this summer, which we think will be especially appealing to all New Yorkers. This is the first time in some years that leading Met stars will sing outdoors in a parks concert.”
The concert will be held in Prospect Park’s Long Meadow Ballfields on an oversized stage and surrounded by six jumbo screens to accommodate the audience’s view. The Met is expecting a large turnout, about 150,000 people, to come and hear the legendary husband and wife team. Sponsors, to promote this event, are even offering 25,000 in free pre-paid MTA Metrocards at select locations to the public, on June 16, to attend this Met Opera parks concert.
The rain date for this event is June 21st. People can also tune into 96.3 FM, WQXR, to hear the live broadcast or the Met Opera’s website, www.Metopera.org, where the concert will be streamed live.
